Ideas and Influence-Eloise, Alyssa, Emily & Yasz

Below is a trailer to the genre film that we are basing our film opening on. It is a PG film trailer to SPY KIDS 2 and it also shows the type of characters and costumes we will be involving in our work as well.

Location for childrens film opening

We chose this forest located in long road 6th form college, due to the fact there is a long stretched pathway covered with leaves and twigs. We want our first scene to be the 'spy' running through an area like this.

For our 'Detention Scene'
First scene, 'spy' running through forest.
First scene location.

First scene; 'Spy' running through forest.
'Detention Scene'

This classroom works well for our children film opening as there are single desks, which  is what we need for the 'detention scene' as we want the girl to be sitting on her own to emphasize the fact she is in detention rather than a normal lesson.

Understanding of Children Films

Childrens films can vary from romance, comedy, fantasy, ect. They are usually either a PG or U.
The difference between a PG and U is very important.

PG FILMS (parental guidance)

  • Discriminatory is likely to be unnaccetable.
  • Reference to illegal drugs or drug misuse must be innocuous or carry a suitable anti-drug message.
  • Scary sequences should not be intense.
  • No detail of potentially dangerous behaviour which young children are likely to copy. No glamorisation of realistic or easily accessible weapons.
  • Mild bad langauge only.
  • No sexual context
  • Sexual activity must be discreet and infrequent.
  • Moderate Violence without detail, may be allowed.

U FILMS
(universal, suitable for all)

  • No discriminatory language or behaviour unless clearly disapproved of.
  • No references to illegal drugs or drug misuse.
  • Scary sequences should be mild, brief and unlikely to cause undue anxiety to young children. The outcome must always be reassuring.
  • No potentially dangerous behaviour which young children are likely to copy
  • Infrequent use only of very mild bad language.
  • Occasional natural nudity, with no sexual context.
  • Kissing and 'making love'
  • Mild violence only. Occasional mild threat or menace only.
Mary Poppins is a U

Home Alone is a PG due to the fact it contains mild violence and imitable behaviour.
Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows is a PG. Mainly due to the fact there is mild violence used and horror

planning childrens film

Final idea:

A spy film rated PG film which will include all people in our group.
We will open the film with scenes of Emily/Eloise(we have not decided who will play this part yet) running trhough a wood, as if someone is chasing her. We will include all the spy equipment, so the audience will have a clear idea of what the film is all about.

There will be music involved in the first scene while Emily/Eloise is running. We have got a selection of music from 'Garage Band' : Edgy Rock bass 07, Orchestra strings 08 and Techno synth 04. These are all quite upbeat, and energizing. We thought this would work well, as we want our audience response to be, energizing. Using this genre of music for the first scene we think would come across very yielding as straight away the film seems uplifting, and interesting to watch; the audience would want to know what is going to happen next.

After the running through the wood scenes, Eloise/Emily wakes up in detention due to one of her two friends, throws a piee of paper at her head, trying to wake her up. Once Eloise/Emily is awake, the music which was used in the first scene suddenly stops. This is when narrative is first used. Bestfriend 1, starts talking to Eloise/Emily blabbing on; Emily/Elioise is just staring into space, still thinking of the amazing dream she just had.

Issues with Prelim filming

Issues:
  • Filming in hand held caused a few difficulties. For example, we could not guarantee having the camera angle is the same position meaning it did not flow as well.
  • The sound quality wasn't brilliant, as the camera would pick up background noise.
  • The location wasn't ideal, as we kept getting asked to move as our language was inappropriate in the area we were filming.
  • We found it quiet hard to keep the language appropriate because of the context of the prelim.
  • We had to rush it because the situation with the costumes ( we couldn't film in 2 days, as we would of changed what we were wearing )
